In Waitangi in 1840 a treaty between Maori chiefs and Queen Victoria's representatives was signed "to make us one people". This controversial historical document today forms the legal basis for righting the wrongs and harmonising our society. The treaty house, marae, and surrounding grounds provide an interesting insight into early New Zealand history.
Waitangi is also home to the picturesque Waitangi golf course.

The picturesque Haruru falls were once a plentiful source of food.
